Rain, Rain, Go Away! The Impact Of Wet Weather On Termite Inspections
Summer is just a few months away, and this is the time of year when people get out house hunting because the weather is warmer. As someone who is hoping to buy a home and relocate before the Christmas holidays, you may have one fear of finding the home of your dreams and then finding out it is infested with termites. Have you ever wondered what happens to a termite inspection if it pours down with rain the day the inspection is scheduled? Here are the two points you need to know about termites and wet weather.
Termite Inspection
When it comes to a termite inspection and termite pest control, the way these are handled during rainy weather differs. A termite inspection is what you, as the buyer, have done after you have signed a contract to buy the house. The contract is conditional upon the results of this inspection, and if there are signs of active termites in the home, you can choose to terminate the contract. Alternatively, you can get a pest controller to eradicate the termites, and the seller must repair any damage as part of the sale contract.
A termite inspection can still proceed during wet weather, and the rain actually works in your favour. Spring rain is a time when flying termites like to mate, so it is easier for the termite inspector to find evidence of termites on the property, as they are already actively milling about.
Termite Treatment
If the inspector finds evidence of termites during the inspection, they may offer an immediate pest control treatment to the seller. This, however, cannot proceed outside while it is raining. Interior pest control can be done the same day if you and the seller wish to take that path of treatment because there is no risk of dilution of the pest control chemicals when they are sprayed inside the home. However, any active termite nests outside need to be left alone until the sun comes out and the earth dries off. This is because the applied chemical treatment needs to sit on the soil and soak into it, so there cannot be any chance of it being washed away by rain or water overflowing from gutters or other rain runoff.
Now that you know the different options for a termite inspection and a termite treatment, you can go ahead with your house hunting knowing that if you do find your dream home, the presence of termites is not automatically going to put a damper on the purchase.
